An existing 5 story brownstone in the landmark district of Cobble Hill was renovated and reconfigured for a family of four. A one-story glass and steel extension replaced a two story rear yard extension. The kitchen located on the parlor floor and a large deck on top of the new addition connects the public areas of the house to the garden. A new, open riser stair, reversed from its traditional orientation, faces the garden as one enters the house while also making a visual connection to the rear yard. The house has in-floor heating and new wide board oak flooring painted grey. The kitchen, built in cabinets and stair enclosure are made of custom laminated plywood. Bathrooms have stone slab floors and white glass tiles. On the 5th floor attic, the slanted walls and angled ceilings clad in wood reference the structural material of the roof construction.
