Simple addition and interior renovation weave together public and private spaces with an evolution of the language of the original Cape Cod home in Princeton.
A simple straightforward shed addition onto the rear of a 1940s Cape Cod house organized public rooms, connected the house to the landscape and allowed for a reconfiguration of existing space for living/entertaining and a new first floor master bedroom suite. Architectural elements and finishes weave the spaces together and with the outdoors. Porches are true exterior rooms with unique personality and function. Traditional fenestration complementing the existing becomes atypical in the addition because of its scale, quantity and location. Materials and objects with sentimental value to the Owner are reintroduced throughout the project to continue the family history.
