Burj Al Arab Terrace

 Back to Projects list
Location
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Year
2016

Burj Al Arab’s Luxury Beach Extension Island is first of its kind in the world that took only 11-months from start to finish. SIGGE Architects designed this concept into reality with tight collaboration with ADMARES. The design was done in Turku, Finland. The structure was also built in Finland and then transported by ship and assembled in Dubai.

The design incorporates a 612sqm freshwater pool and an 828sqm saltwater infinity pool that melts into the horizon to create the mirage of a continuous ebb of water into the Arabian Gulf beyond. An astounding 10 million mosaic tiles in shades of azure and gold line the pools, while 1 million kg of white sand forms a dazzling beach. The pools and 1120sqm beach area sit comfortably in the marine setting and are supported by a heavy-duty steel structure.

The complete Island was built in Finland and transported to Dubai – the biggest ever undertaking of its kind in the world. The walkway follows the precise outline of the slender shadow of the Burj Al Arab spire, linking both ends of the 102-metre-long island and terminating at the infinity pool. It includes an elevated bridge section that spans the freshwater pool and offers panoramic views, making it the perfect spot for staging memorable events, performances and weddings.

The resort’s 10,000sqm luxury deck area also provides access to 32 cabanas (8 of them exclusive, VIP cabanas with far-reaching views across the gulf) and 400 sun loungers plus a restaurant and bar. Inside, a second level incorporates 5000sqm of pristine retail space, VIP areas, locker rooms, shower and other facilities, as well as technical spaces.

The 5,000 ton island resort was successfully completed in just eleven months. The steel structure weighing approximately 3,000 tonnes.

The Burj Al Arab North Deck is a lavish beach resort island designed to provide guests with the most luxurious experience of its kind in the world and sets the standard for resort developments everywhere.
