The redevelopment of the airport area to the south of Bergamo has been a subject of debate for decades and the subject of countless projects that have not been carried out.
The plan for regenerating a sustainable urban area starts from analysing the specificity of the physical, social and productive components that are concentrated in the area, enhancing its peculiarities and transforming the elements into a new structure. the project’s aim is to create an urban park as the centre of the intervention that reconnects, between nature and skill, the two parts of city that are now historically divided.
The project is considered sustainable because it adds natural elements and reorganises its infrastructures, creating a link between residences, schools, universities, healthcare and the tertiary sectors. Here, pedestrians and combined transport offer a new way of living that clearly distinguishes between slow and fast mobility. The new Masterplan’s key point is a new intermodal hub that integrates the current rail and roadtransportstations and acts as a new gateway to and from the city centre and the international airport, building a complex network of urban areas.
