The brief was to create a hiatus for the modern man that delivered a high-end, cut and shave barber experience with the addition of a bar and pre/post shave “chill” space. Located in the popular Chengdu Taikoo Li mall customers would be encouraged to have a cocktail and cut whilst their partners’ shopped next-door.
The design concept was a modern take on the roaring 30’s gentrification by tying classical elements with thoughtfully introduced bold and modern details. The intertwining of masculine details through a lens of soft elegance.
Greeted by a bar on arrival and a large curved plush velvet banquette surrounded by a logo etched copper wall, Doc’s delivers a grand high-end aesthetic. Art deco curves, curios display cabinets and soft leather chairs add to the illusion of wandering into a bygone era. Deep blue hues contrast with crisp white tiles. Soft wood textures, copper and custom designed Art Deco inspired wallpaper and art walls complete the interior scheme.
Top of the line jet black Belmont Barber chairs sit within each workstation. Full height back lit mirrors with blue cabinetry and copper coloured curved walls form each station, the curved walls providing a sense of privacy to each individual. Cut outs in the wall double as shelving and give a link to the station adjacent. Every workstation is designed to be ergonomically functional and well lit, with the Barbers fully aided to apply their craft.
The black and white floors tiles are a nod to the classic salon aesthetic and bring a sense of barbershop familiarity to the environment. Curves are cleverly intertwined in the space from the bar to ceiling, flooring and barber stations, this gives the whole space a continuous soft and elegant feeling of movement. Copper elements are continued on and feature in the cabinetry details throughout the space. These plentiful soft touches create a more refined look to balance the space and much like your Barber, show that the utmost care is being taken.
