The existing house was a two-story wooden structure with a large house-shaped roof on a corner lot about one meter above the road, facing the city.
However, due to the detailed division of rooms and the depth of the plan, the interior was dark and not well lit.
Therefore, the floor of the second floor, which is the central space of the house, was raised about one meter to create a high-ceilinged dining room on the first floor, and a children's room on the second floor, reminiscent of an attic.
The high ceilings on the first floor create an open space and allow light to penetrate deep into the rooms.
A half-floor atrium connects the first and second floors, making it easier for the family to communicate.
In front of the house, a large deck was prepared.
The deck is about one meter higher than the road, so pedestrians do not have to worry about their line of sight. The deck, which is connected to the dining room, opens the house to the city while protecting the privacy.
The central room of the house is surrounded by rooms of various sizes.
We designed each enclosing room as an individual house, with ceilings in the shape of houses of various slopes. Smaller houses surround the center of this high-ceilinged house.
A small house surrounds the center of this high-ceilinged house.
When we first saw the existing house, the family's small house was gathered under that large roof.
The family's small house is gathered under that big roof when we first saw the existing house.
