The project required that the existing Federal Style house to remain and to be preserved while providing an addition to the house. The back of the house facing the garden was faceless and the federal style details were damaged and unrecognizable. The main existing house is preserved and white washed and the new section is incised with the old.
The strategy was to de-materialize the back and extrude the new addition. The new and the old house meet at the intersection of the stair, and the stair links the two in the X,Y,Z direction. The new addition, is mainly an open loft like space incorporating the kitchen, dining room and a den, extending to view the garden and pool. The 2nd floor of the additions is used as terrace for the kid’s bedrooms and the 3rd level is the terrace for the master bedroom with the views of Atlantic ocean
