RAMBØLL HEADQUARTERS The vision is for this new domicile – with its focus on openness, knowledge sharing and collaboration – to be a holistic and sustainable icon. This is reflected in the building’s main architectural feature, the interior street inspired by Barcelona’s world famous shopping area, La Rambla, teeming with café guests, shoppers, artistes, local residents and tourists.
MIKKELSEN ARKITEKTER has integrated the Rambla concept in the building’s central public space with its concentration of extrovert functions such as café, canteen, fitness centre, foyer and auditorium creating a framework and contact area for users of the building – regulars as well as visitors. Still based on its source of inspiration in the Catalonian capital the “rambla” of this domicile cuts through the full height of the building. The various areas of the complex are connected horizontally and vertically via mezzanine floors and balconies and by a central stairway leading from ground to fifth floor – a three-dimensional thoroughfare, a 3-D rambla.
The actual offices have been located along the outer walls – protecting workplaces from the bustle of the communal areas and affording employees views of the surroundings. In this way the working environment will alternate between quiet seclusion for working at individual tasks and communal areas with focus on collaboration and more extrovert activities.
