VERTICAL GREENS
architectureRED was appointed as master planners and architects for the 5 acre, 600,000sf of mixed use development at kovilambakkam, chennai. opposite the proposed metro station in Koyambedu, Chennai. The brief is to create a residential community that is vibrant and pedestrian oriented.
The design approach was to create a layered open space system, both horizontally and vertically, integrated with an efficient street network, resulting in a high density development. The green space system is interwoven with the building layout to craete a hierarchy of spaces; both public and private. At the ground level the spaces create a sense of community while at the upper level they become more semi-private and private in character. The overall development is oriented to take maximum advantage of the lake located south of the site. The towers step down to the lake to maximize views for the units as well as to create a strong skyline.
