Human scale was always a determining factor in this 400 square-foot space in SoHo. Given the owner’s programmatic needs, multi-functional installations were a necessity. Operable layers of custom millwork were molded along the contours of the tenement walls and hidden by a series of full height offset pivot doors. A matte white concrete bathroom and kitchen counter were set against a polished glass wall. Shallow ebonized oak work surfaces were integrated with a radiator enclosure and set of drawers. A full width blackout shade could also serve as a projection screen, which when used in combination with a quartet of sliding etched-glass panels and controlled lighting allowed for a blur between two spaces.
