Dutch journalist Peter Veenendaal presents archival photos, original construction footage, and interviews on Willem Marinus Dudok's De Bijenkorf department store in Rotterdam in the documentary City of Light.
The store opened in 1930, was damaged ten years later in World War II, and was demolished in 1960, after a replacement store designed by Marcel Breuer was built. The 20-minute documentary, in English and in Dutch with English subtitles, gives a detailed historical account of Dudok's modern masterpiece, ending with some surprising glimpses (like the one above) of a virtually recreated De Bijenkorf in present-day Rotterdam.
