The Design Museum in London has announced the shortlist for its twelfth annual Beazley Designs of the Year, the exhibition and awards celebrating "the most innovative designs of the last 12 months."
The 76 nominated projects fall into six categories: Architecture, Digital, Fashion, Graphics, Product, and Transport. Of interest here is the Architecture category, which consists of 16 projects (three fewer than last year) ranging from individual buildings and landscapes to renovations and even digital systems related to architecture. The full list is below, with short, teaser descriptions courtesy of the Design Museum and links to the projects on their website.
A winner will be selected in each category and one overall winner will be announced on November 21, 2019. Beazley Designs of the Year is on display from September 11, 2019, to February 9, 2020 at the museum's London home.
Last year's Overall Design of the Year was Forensic Architecture's Counter Investigations, a solo exhibition held in London; although related to architecture, Forensic Architecture' exhibition won in the Digital category. The previous year, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, designed by David Adjaye/Adjaye Associates in partnership with The Freelon Group, Davis Brody Bond and SmithGroupJJR, won both the Architecture category and the Overall Design of the Year.
