One of the highlights on the expo floor at the 2014 AIA National Convention is Kreysler & Associates' composite façade panel for SNØHETTA's expansion of SFMOMA, now under construction.
The booth of Kreysler & Associates, "a custom fabrication shop specializing in the design, engineering, and manufacture of composite products for architecture, sculpture, and industrial applications," is easily one of the simplest on the floor, for it consists of a few ipads on stands and a flat-screen TV mounted to a full-size mockup of one of the facade panels. According to the fabricator, "the facade panels will be the largest architectural application of composites technology in the United States." That's an easy statement to swallow after seeing the long, rippled panel in person.
