Before starting his eponymous firm in 1996, Stout worked at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Frank O. Gehry & Associates. Experience at the latter appears to have influenced the fluid forms of a number of Stout's projects highlighted below. The architect is best known for regional art museums in North America, most notably the Art Gallery of Albert in Edmonton and the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, Virginia. In his firm's early days he realized many projects in Germany, where he explored the relationship between form and sustainability.
