“The RADHÄUSLE Sindelfingen, promoted by the association Region Stuttgart, is on the one hand a bicycle shed which allows cyclists to lock their bikes at a secure place, sheltered against the weather. On the other hand it is an attractive piece of street furniture which offers additional functions for the benefit of all citizens, whilst its appearance enhances the public space.” (Source: City of Sindelfingen)

The bicycle is an environmentally and climate-friendly means of transport within the city. It works on a simple technical principle; and at the same time it is an aesthetic object. Cycling is fun and adds value to people’s lives (physical exercise). To be accepted by cyclists, and to remain a successful contribution to the urban environment the RADHÄUSLE is meant to have the same characteristics. Through its modular design Sindelfingen’s timber bike shed offers several implementation options: either for one, or for more bicycles. It can be extended towards the front, or towards the long sides, in order to react flexibly to the specific requirements of the installation site. Other functions (bench, high table, additional bike holders) make the RADHÄUSLE a piece of street furniture.

The bike shed is made of native beech wood. Hence, in the future, cyclists make a double contribution to environment protection: whilst cycling and parking. The applied beech wood has been modified by means of acetylation, so that the RADHÄUSLE Sindelfingen can endure to be exposed to the weather.
