The Niederösterreichische Landes-Heil- und Pflegeanstalt für Nerven- und Geisteskranke »Am Steinhof« (Lower Austrian State He­aling and Care Institution for the neurologically and mentally ill, »Am Steinhof») is one of the most sensible Viennese sites in terms of heritage and contemporary reuse. The transformation from an introverted site with introverted buildings into an open spatial experience that fosters collaboration and interaction between all stakeholders requires a melange of design in a respectful concordance and at the same time deliberate contradiction with the protected heritage.

Donaumarina Tower lies at a neuralgic point of Vienna’s urban expansion at the Danube, where new residential areas and business districts arise. The invited competition consisted of a review process for acquiring a construction concept for a high-rise building with office usage. The design by Snøhetta in cooperation with hochform. Architekten on one hand considers the context, while on the other hand creating a building with a strong identity and great spatial qualities.
