Swimming Pool

 Back to Projects list
Location
Darmstadt, Germany
Year
2011

The swimming pool made of white fair-faced concrete with a sealed coating is located in a central courtyard of a multi-generation building. Construction of the pool required an elaborate shuttering process to be used.

The balanced proportions, precise lines, and groutless finishing underscore the overall, pared-back impression. This mood is emphasized by the fact that the floor paving runs flush to the edge of the pool and by the elegant indirectly lit bench of Italian shell limestone.

At dusk, the pool morphs into an abstract body of light. Directly next to it, on the lower floor of the annex building, there is a music room that has been modernized in a similarly purist vein. Simply by pulling the curtains, the balcony can be transformed into a changing room.
