Service and security are essential parts of the new capital airport BER Berlin Brandenburg. The brief includes different user profiles at the interface between airside and landside services.
The four buildings contain a range of services such as the safety and security services, the federal authorities i.e. customs and immigration offices, the German Weather Service (DWD) and the ground handling staff with their special fleet of vehicles.
Premises of Service City are based near the main terminal building´s south pier. In this location a complex of four buildings has been planned and implemented to meet the needs of various clients with different requirements. Through its uniformity and design clarity this ensemble represents a consistent unit.
The safety and security services building integrates three different users with some 800 employees under one roof: the German Federal Police, the German customs and the airport security staff. The three adjacent buildings on site house the staff and administration premises for about 3.000 employees of the ground handling services and the German Weather Service. Furthermore the complex of buildings contains the central workshop and the hangar for the fleet of differently specialized vehicles of the ground handling services.
