EUROGATE 2050: URBAN QUALITY comes from URBAN DESIGN

How do we design a new Vienna district for 2050?

The new zoning plan will have a defining impact on the Eurogate district for decades to come. All the more reason to explore the question of how urban development must be conducted in the present day in order to satisfy the combined requirements of living and working, quality of life and integration, nature and outdoor spaces, leisure and everyday life. In order to identify locally based perspectives for the future, we must learn to appreciate local conditions. In the decades ahead, we will completely restructure our society in order to minimize resource consumption.

Outdoor areas define spaces

Outdoor spaces created by the boundaries of buildings, by outdoor design and surface qualities, should be varied and versatile. The dynamic between different types of construction and outdoor spaces generates a vibrant atmosphere. Cohesion emerges from the way the structures of construction and outdoor spaces flow into each other. Outdoor spaces play a role in shaping urban design, and urban design enhances the cohesion of outdoor spaces.
