The campus heart is the core of an extensive makeover of what was becoming a campus of increasingly forlorn outdoor spaces. For years, the campus relied upon its bush setting for its appeal but lacked the urban vitality students and staff now seek. The project redefines a pedestrian spine, removing bridges and other clutter, and creates protected spaces activated by cafés and bookshops. The organic forms of new buildings are forceful contrasts to the stoic concrete architecture of the existing campus.
