Landscape as an Extention of Student Lounge
The Kyushu Sangyo University campus redevelopment was implemented as part of its 50th Anniversary Project. The campus comprises randomly placed school buildings, an undulating topography, a waterway dividing the campus, and our idea was to propose a landscape design that actively incorporates the existing context. We created and integrated places generating various activities and communities by providing features that make use of the existing environment including the large circular pergola generating a sense of unity across the waterway, the grass-covered plaza resembling terraced rice fields using the natural slope, the waterway that had been converted from a flood control facility into a waterscape element by adding colorful greenery. We expect that places for students inside the building will extend outward and the landscape will become a pleasant space serving as an outdoor student lounge.
