An ensemble consisting of two buildings houses the new Maschinenring office building and a warehouse. Dividing the construction task into different building volumes zones the property into sub-areas. The public arrival is visible to the southwest, while at the back of the office building there is a semi-public courtyard with strong references to the warehouse. The design therefore responds to the surrounding context, consisting of small-scale structures and a less densely populated landscape. The typology of the construction task relates to the buildings with gable roofs that characterize the area and strengthens the identity of the complex with the materials chosen.
You enter the three-story building via a protected secondary structure in front and reach a foyer, which serves as the first point of contact and is divided into public and semi-public functions. Social exchange takes place on the ground floor; a large multifunctional room and an adjacent common room with a large terrace form the basis for this. The standard floors above accommodate the office units. The vertical routing forms a centrally organized access core, the horizontal distribution level ends in a flexibly designed common room. The rooms open directly onto the covered balcony areas in front and, in addition to spatial expansion with a high quality of stay for the employees, also offer attractive views of the surrounding area.
The design is based on the construction principle of solid wood construction. The structural timber construction made of wall and ceiling panels, which is visible in all areas, forms a structurally logical and visually comprehensible supporting concept. The rigid, elongated cubature of the solid construction is broken up by the structures in front of it, without negating the advantages of a compact design. The interaction with the wooden warehouse and the resulting open and intermediate areas define the harmonious ensemble of the new building.
