The new Raiffeisen Lägern-Baregg Mixed-use Development is located in the town of Wettingen (AG) at the outer edge of the village zone. At the northern end of Alberich Zwyssigstrasse, the two stepped volumes and piazza combine to create a bold and differentiated urban strategy. The two articulated buildings transition along the main road to match the smaller scale and organic nature of the surrounding village. The site’s permeability along with a stepping in building height generate interesting diagonal perspectives between the different volumes. The result is an environment full of character in which one would like both live and work; a sustainable architecture that reflects the image of the bank as a contemporary service company.
The compact buildings allows for a flexible modification of the structure in the future. Situated on the village square, the bank branch of Raiffeisen Lägern-Baregg is located on the ground floor of the East building, while a small café is planned in the West building. The upper floors contain a mix of mostly 3.5 and 4.5 room flats, with the majority of these situated on the corners. The units are conceived as multifaceted, contemporary living spaces with a sustainable flair and attractive outdoor loggias. The residential floors are designed as a hybrid construction using a wood-concrete composite system. As a showcase project for sustainability, the development is to be built according to the specifications of the Swiss Sustainable Building Standard (SNBS) and will be completed with at least a Gold certificate.
