New construction of school building Oberdorf, Oensingen (2017-2019)
Client: Municipality of Oensingen, Oensingen
Architects: englerarchitekten BSA SIA, Basel
The Oberdorf primary school complex below the Oensingen castle is located on the slope of the Jura Mountains with a view of the Alpine chain. It will be formed into a new ensemble by the southern extension and the landscaping.
Access is via the building's open schoolhouse staircase, which connects all three floors. Daylight falls into the base floor via a large skylight, allowing the center to shine. The learning niches are arranged along the façade and can be fully shared for various forms of teaching and flexibly furnished. Each classroom is located at one corner of the building and is exposed to daylight on two sides. The group rooms are each arranged between two classrooms and are glazed to room height.
We visually connected the school areas such as classrooms, group rooms and learning niches as well as the staff room and the exhibition room via the luminaires. In order to take into account the different sizes of the rooms, we responded with a very calm arrangement of round and narrow surface-mounted and recessed luminaires, which are set evenly in all rooms. To illuminate the walls of the exhibition space in the basement, the basic lighting is supplemented with wallwashers.
The center of the building with the associated circulation areas is illuminated vertically via the central staircase area and supplemented with downlights. The staircase connecting the three floors is illuminated with a handrail luminaire.
