The design for this competition project stemmed from a detailed climatic analysis and subsequent response to climatic parameters dictated by the site. The form is oriented and shaped to capture the prevailing breezes and channel them along the surface of the building to maximize passive cooling through convection. Alternate floor plates are rotated about the core as a pivot to create green terraces that scoop in the breezes.
The northern facade optimizes the use of natural sunlight while the southern facade is protected by a large shaded terraced volume. This protected terrace in the west and south-west, besides generating thermal comfort in the interior spaces, also creates a common public amenity space. A public plaza at the ground level with peripheral vehicular circulation allows for a pedestrian-friendly character.
