A tree-house as a symbol of sustainability and ecology. This spectacular project in Hechtel-Eksel in Belgium was initiated by the international paper producer Sappi together with its communication agency Proximity BBDO, the city of Hechtel-Eksel and the Flemish Forest and Nature Agency.
Situated in a forest clearing, the gently curved tree-house blends into the tops of the pine trees and yet seems to shine through at the same time. Designed as a special place where the project partners and external groups can come together to speak about ecology issues, the tree house is essentially divided into two structures. Whereas one part of the construction houses a café lounge with a pantry, the upper level accommodates the centrepiece of the building, an exquisite conference room. In line with the green content of the project, the tree-house has been fitted with sustainable lighting technology with a uniform look throughout: the Nimbus Modul Q LED luminaires, which were used for both the interior and the exterior, perfectly complement the philosophy of the project. As Andreas Wenning, the architect responsible for the tree-house commented: "The luminaires are attractive, high quality and feature good LED technology."
