The Women's Building

- Reddymade
Reddymade was honored to be one of thirteen shortlisted firms as The Devi Group in collaboration with Damyanti Radheshwar for the Women’s Building. This project reimagines a former women’s prison in the heart of New York, abandoned after Hurricane Sandy as a headquarters for the global girls and women's rights movement, that could provide support and resources for non-profit groups in the field.
Designed as a beacon in the landscape, that announces it's important mission, the new tower embraces the old building in fluid ribbons of high-performance concrete. A key feature of the interior is a vertical light sculpture that was to be designed and made by girls from underprivileged communities in on-site fabrication workshops bringing sunlight from the roof into the depths of the former prison.
