A SPACE OF "MITATE"
This is a lounge in the office building of STAR, a self-built project completed in 2000 and modified 15 years later.
We always try to design a frame that is appropriate to the client's image, but this time, since the client is ourselves, we wondered what kind of space would be appropriate for us. The result was a space that looked like sushi, where the ingredients are just there, but in fact they have been carefully selected and carefully prepared.
The counter and table were designed to match the 8m long, 90cm wide asamera (African teak) that we purchased. The floor is made of Oya stone, which is usually used for the garden, and we asked Tomotaka Yasui to create mother-of-pearl inlay carvings for the back of the old wooden door. Although the furniture was made in different countries and periods, it was coordinated from the perspective of solid wood.
