The Dutch architect has been appointed Director of the Berlage Center for Advanced studies in Architecture and Urban Design at the Delft University of Technology.
After the closing of the Berlage Institute in 2012, the postgraduate institution was reborn as the Berlage Center for Advanced studies in Architecture and Urban Design at the Delft University of Technology. The Berlage's executive board, chaired by Professor Karin Laglas, has selected Nanne de Ru to be the first Dean in the institution's new entity as part of Delft's Faculty of Architecture. Nanne de Ru is a graduate from the Berlage Institute in 2002 and a partner at the architecture practice Powerhouse Company.
Dutch architect Hermann Herzberger founded the Berlage Institute in 1990 and served as Dean until 1995. Fellow Dutch architect Wiel Arets followed as Dean, until 2002, when Spain's Alejandro Zaera-Polo (now Dean at Princeton University School of Architecture) took over. The Dean for the last five years of the Berlage Institute was Croatian architect Vedran Mimica.
