Love² House is house for two couples in the heart of Tokyo. We purchased 29.53
m2 of land that fits the budget at the desired location, and planned it in a flat of 18.8 m2 in total floor space.
As a reference example of a detached house less than 20m2 in floor space, there is a "Hojyo square" (9.18 m2) by Choumei and a Cup Martin's hut (16.85 m2) by Le Corbusier. The point in common is that they loved the whole life in the hut along with the surrounding environment. So I thought about the "infinity of small things" that there is everything, not scraped minimalism.
I wanted to realize in this small house the five elements that made the Romans ideal for living in the villa (study, bathing, theater, music, gastronomy). Every day I go to an open-air bath, enjoy 300 records at a sufficient volume, eat cooked rice in a clay pot, and read a book I like. Also, as you mentioned in the book, this house also has elements of religion (Christianity), and when we get tired we rely on the Bible.
Although there is no direct sun light during the three months of winter, consider it to be a light environment similar to the polar night seen in Northern Europe, and plan a main frame with skylights that emphasizes winter sky light. And in summer, let the direct sun light reminiscent of a southern country pour in, and let a living space that enjoys the light environment of a wide range of latitude on the earth appear in this small house throughout the year I thought.
