A Community Congregational Mosque: The Abijo Mosque aesthetic and materiality is inspired by traditional Yoruba mud buildings and our responsibility to propagate unique architecture that reflects the climate, culture, and beliefs of the people. We use tyrolean as a form of expression in our architecture. It has become our craft - an abstract metaphor for purity. This aesthetic texture is synonymous with our ethno- tropical contemporary philosophy; which includes the use of the old ma- rine plywood (formwork boards) to make doors, and in the case of Abijo: re- purposing reclaimed paving stones from another site to form the perforated walls to the high level window openings. This fenestration device aids the stack effect in the Mosque and acts as sun screens to the windows.
