JCFO designed and oversaw construction of a series of unique open spaces including a large pool deck, convention center roof garden, porte cochere, and nightclub patio in addition to all site perimeter streetscape and drop-off areas for MGM’s new 75-acre development in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main pool deck is 300,000 sf with three large pools; an adult pool, three Jacuzzis, 32 custom cabanas and capacity for up to 1,500 guests in a lush setting of tropical and desert vegetation. Each pool area is shaped as a softly rounded ellipse, or pod-like enclosure, with distinctive planting themes: there is a “yucca pool,” an “acacia pool,” and a “palm pool.” The main circulation paths are defined by verdant plantings of palm, acacia, and pine, with a group of large sculptural bottle trees accenting the center along with a distinctive water feature – three large, leaning stone jars that pour water onto a bed of round stones - providing a refreshing, cooling sound.
