With the built up area of 375 sq.m., the house was designed for a family of 4 and remains one of the most cherished projects. In the case of his own house, the architect had to bring about a synthesis of the requirements of a Gujarati household and aesthetics which would appeal to the residents of the house.
It provided with a seed idea and gave an opportunity to demonstrate and evolve the design philosophy of the architect. Built in exposed brick and exposed concrete, the house was planned on two levels with the living/dining on the ground floor, and the bedrooms at approximately 2m level, in order to have a large garden area. All activities have been centered on a large back garden and can be approached through a deep south facing verandah. Another highlight of this design is the achievement of minimal circulation and the smart usage of smaller spaces for domestic activities and storage.
The spatial organization of its interiors determines the articulation of its exteriors. All the surfaces and forms are well-ordered and deliberately composed and all elements clearly retain their identity and integrity. Simplicity in design and firmness in detailing has strengthened the overall concept.
