St. Thomas
Toronto, Canada
Two St Thomas, designed by Hariri Pontarini Architects, stands as an elegant new addition on the north-east corner of Charles Street, in the prestigious Bay/Bloor area. Carefully integrated into the neighbourhood, the project reflects on the high-quality materials, design and landscaping of both the historic Victoria campus, and the contemporary buildings on Charles Street West, while enhancing the quality of the neighborhood. A distinct tower rises above a three-storey podium at Two St Thomas and marks the entrance of the neighbourhood. The podium houses a two-storey high amenity party room, a wine tasting room, and a fitness centre on the third floor with an outdoor terrace. This twenty-three storey south tower features luxurious, spacious residential units with expansive balconies enlivened by bronze, black granite stone cladding details and pre-cast concrete. This new development employs a visual vocabulary of light and colour, material and texture, with attention to detail, craftsmanship and practical living. Contemporary but enduring materials articulated with clean modern lines will ensure a timeless visual quality. Six St. Thomas, an eleven- storey luxury residential development also designed by HPA, blends the project with the mid-rise scale of the neighborhood. Extensive landscaping and preservation of the existing trees melds the project into the green pathways of the historic campus and the urban landscape of Sultan and St. Thomas Streets. A series of landscaping features, planters and pedestrian pathways integrate the project with the urban landscape of Sultan and St. Thomas Street, and enriches the dense Toronto streetscape by engaging the community by adding value to the urban quality of the neighbourhood.
