Todd is founding partner of archimania, a Memphis-based, award winning architecture firm known for its modern and innovative design solutions. Since the inception of the firm in 1995, progressive, sustainable, and contextual design has remained at the core of its work. As Principal-in-Charge of Design, Todd offers clients fresh perspectives, new approaches, and creative design solutions for their projects. He is involved in every project from start to finish, and believes that no project is without an opportunity to create a better architecture, regardless of size or budget.
Todd has chaired and/or juried numerous design award programs, including the American Institute of Architects Washington, D.C., AIA Indiana, AIA Louisiana, AIA Mississippi, AIA New Orleans, AIA’s National Canstruction, National Development Awards, Builder Magazine’s Annual Builder’s Choice Design and Planning Awards, Masonry Institute Design Awards, The Francis Mah Travel Grant, and AIA Memphis’ Design Awards Program Chairman.
Todd was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects for his notable contributions to the design field in 2009. During that same year, Todd was one of only nine university alumni named Mississippi State University’s Alumni Fellow of the Year. In April of this year, Todd was the recipient of the Francis Gassner Award for his contributions to design.
He works in the community, and beyond, as a passionate promoter of design excellence. He has continually transformed modest projects into over 150 award-winning works of national significance; as a result, his work has been consistently recognized by national, regional, state, and local award programs, featured in a dozen books, and published in Architectural Record, Architecture, Builder, Custom Home, Metropolitan Home, Residential Architect, The New York Times, AIArchitect, and ArchDaily. Also, of note of the 150 awards, over 100 are AIA awards.
He has lectured and/or acted as visiting critic at universities and at AIA conventions including the University of Arkansas, Auburn University, Catholic University in D.C., Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Louisiana Tech, University of Memphis, Mississippi State University, University of Tennessee, AIA Arkansas, AIA Indiana, AIA Memphis, AIA Mississippi, AIA Ohio Valley Region, and AIA Tennessee.
Barry Alan Yoakum

Barry is a modernist at heart and designs progressive projects with regional influences. He strives to produce designs that spark architectural dialogue in a vastly traditional region. Barry is copartner of archimania, a Memphis-based, award winning architecture firm known for its modern and innovative design solutions. Since the inception of the firm in 1995, progressive, sustainable, and contextual design has remained at the core of its work.
As Principal-in-Charge of Vision and Collaboration, Barry promotes extraordinary architecture by leading the collaborative design process among client, project stakeholders, and design team. Through this process, Barry contributes to specific aspects of the physical design; he may develop the concept, execute a key detail, establish a form, frame a design position, or influence a critical part of the architecture. His personal residence is the first LEED for Homes residence in Tennessee designed and owned by an architect.
He was elected to the College of Fellows American Institute of Architects (FAIA) for his contributions in design in 2010 which places him in the top 1% of all U.S. architects. He is a recognized leader in the field of collaborative design, has invested over 30 years in implementing sustainable design strategies and produces progressive designs that encourage architectural advancement and dialogue to better the built environment.
His work has received over fifty awards, including AIA regional, state, and local design awards, a NOVA Award, and a National Endowment for the Arts Citation. His work has been recognized by AIArchitect, Architect, Architectural Record, Architecture, Architecture Week, Building Design & Construction, Contract Design, Dwell Magazine, Progressive Architecture, and residential architect. His work has been featured in numerous architecture books and has garnered national recognition from CNN, PBS, The New York Times. His personal designed residence was featured on the cover of the Wall Street Journal.
He has lectured at over a hundred forums including AIA, ASLA, NACORE, PSMJ Resources, SMPS, ULI and USGBC. He has juried professional design awards programs for AIA Chicago, AIA West Virginia, Architectural Record and SMPS National. He has juried at Arkansas, Mississippi State and Tennessee. He was a charter member of the Board of Advisors for The University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design, is a board member of Memphis in May and Hattiloo Theatre, and past Chairman of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Greater Memphis. Barry authored the architecture industry’s first book dedicated to the art and science of design alliances and collaborative design.
