Architectural Design Concept for the Bering Strait project, Diomede Islands
The Bering Strait Project aims at making the Bering Strait a place where the east and the west hemisphere are connected, (both physically and culturally ). The design proposal uses an immersed tube tunnel connection through the Bering Strait. Sections of excavated underground tunnel are positioned on both mainland entries of the tunnel, as well as under the Diomede Islands. The Peace Park can be considered as an independent island, where today changes into tomorrow. The community is divided on the two Diomede Islands and consists of different types of housing as well as various public facilities. In addition, a series of light towers were developed to complement the connective program of the project as well as ventilate the tunnel.
