Standard Hotel Will Not Take Over TWA Terminal

Last September the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) entered into a deal with André Balazs Properties to transform Eero Saarinen's landmark TWA Flight Center at JFK Airport into a Standard Hotel. This deal would have made the building the third such Standard in New York City, following ones above the High Line and on The Bowery, while also finding a new use for the iconic 1962 structure.

But in a statement from André Balazs Properties last week, the deal is off: "Standard International was invited to enter into exclusive negotiations based on its unique plans and designs for the adaptive re-use of the legendary building. After more than two years of negotiations, Standard International has been unable to reach a final agreement with the Port Authority and announced today that it will no longer pursue the project."

A statement from the PANYNJ indicated they are "already in discussions with a second prospective candidate from the request for proposal process to redevelop the historic TWA Flight Center." Per Crains NY, other interested candidates last year included Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide and Trump International.
