Fan-shaped depth

A project to renovate the top floor of a tenant building in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Onomichi is associated with a seaside townscape, but the site is located on the inland side of the city. Although the building was intended as a building, the top floor was originally planned as a residence, and was renovated to suit the lifestyle of the new residents. The building has a fan-shaped exterior that matches the shape of the site, and is characterized by a series of panoramic openings, and we aimed to create a space that maximizes the enjoyment of this expanse. The composition of the building is as follows
The entrance, LDK, and inner terrace are arranged along the fan-shaped opening to create one connected space, and the bedrooms and other private rooms are located near the windows on the other side.
The ceiling is made of a series of beams along the fan shape to create depth and shading.
The opening of the window is made to seem large in relation to the size of the room, so a hanging wall is built in front of the window to adjust the amount of opening, and the storage space is continuous up to the waist wall.
The hanging wall will house blinds to adjust the amount of daylight and the line of sight from outside.
The above actions created a space that satisfies openness, continuity, and daylight control. In addition, as has been the practice in previous house renovations, the ceilings between the rooms are made continuous by using glass between the railing above the fixtures, and the ceiling surfaces of the partition walls are also made of glass, creating a state of connection despite the partitioning. The bathroom is protected by the inner terrace in the foreground, where one can enjoy the view of the mountain range. In the bedroom, the glass from the waist wall up connects the living room with the view of the mountains beyond.
We believe that the rich expanse of the house is achieved by maximizing the use of the architectural form to create depth of space and continuity to the surrounding environment.
