'Drawing the margins of the site into the architecture'
Two of the three sides of the triangular site border the road and the other side borders the neighbouring land, so privacy is invaded no matter which direction it opens. On the other hand, it is fortunate that the site is surrounded by a road and that the level of the site is higher than the road surface, which allows for good daylight and ventilation all day long, even in an urban residential area.
Therefore, the basement was planned using the difference in elevation of the site and the approach to the house from the road on the north side. The basement is RC, with a garage and bicycle parking space, and the entrance planned between them; the first and second floors are wooden.
The first floor is an open LDK with additional workspace, while the second floor is planned as a private space with private rooms and water, connected inside and out via four large and small atriums, so that the family can be felt anywhere in the house.
All spaces border various external marginal spaces.
The margins block the view from the outside by adjusting the distance and angle, while from the inside the house enjoys the open, sunny and airy environment that is inherent to the site.
The triangular shape of the site tends to make it a wasteful and unused space that is often left out of planning, but here the idea is to achieve both privacy and publicity by actively addressing the blank spaces between the architecture and the public.
I believe it is the role of architecture to address the site's shortcomings, maximise its strengths and propose a more attractive space.
